UrbanAID Lisbon is a research initiative focused on deploying Artificial Intelligence to solve complex urban connectivity and housing density challenges in the Portuguese capital.

Scope
Our scope focuses on the application of generative AI models to Lisbon’s historic and modern urban clusters. We are identifying optimal sites for residential intensification while preserving the city’s unique architectural heritage and social fabric.
Challenges
The primary challenge is the preservation of Lisbon’s delicate historic topography while introducing modern infrastructure needs. We are using AI to model sunlight, air-flow, and social interaction patterns to ensure that new developments enhance the city’s quality of life.
Innovation
We developed a “Digital Twin” of the research area that allows for real-time scenario testing using AI agents. This innovation enables planners to visualize the long-term impacts of urban policies on city connectivity and resident well-being.
