AI FOR HOUSING

>

Research

The AI for Housing study was conducted as a research initiative
at CEPT University, Ahmedabad to decode the housing logic of
Charles Correa and replicate it through advanced technology.

Study:

Computational Research / AI in Architecture

Location:

CEPT University, Ahmedabad

Team:

Keshava Narayan, Ashish Tiwari

Scope:

Our research involved rethinking computational design models for housing. We focused on translating legendary architect Charles Correa's "Courtyard and Terrace" logic into generative algorithms, aiming to create high-density, high-quality living spaces for urban India.

Challenges:

Quantifying the "unmeasurable" qualities of Correa's architecture—such as the relationship between open and closed spaces—was a primary hurdle. We had to develop a unique dataset of spatial rules that could be understood by computational models.

Innovation:

By integrating AI with parametric design, we produced a model that can generate thousands of valid housing configurations in seconds. Each output respects environmental orientation and social privacy rules, demonstrating a path toward automated, high-fidelity urban design.
